Today's teeth replacement choices have evolved significantly with dental implants taking the top spot for permanent, lasting replacement teeth. Portland City Dental wants you to reclaim your smile appearance, health, and function with lifelike solutions like dental implants. You can receive implants with crowns or implant-supported bridges, or even implant-supported dentures that ensure no slippage or the need for daily adhesives as seen with traditional removable dentures.

Visit our dental clinic to let our dentist assess your teeth replacement needs by thoroughly inspecting your mouth and the teeth. If you plan to receive dental implants, it is prudent that you learn about their costs and implications. Here, at our dental office, we want to tell you that dental implants are worth the cost.

Are Dental Implants Affordable?

You may perceive dental implants as much more expensive than other choices like dentures and bridges. However, in the long term, dental implants are a cost-saver. The upfront payment for dental implants is higher, however. These restorations are going to endure a lifetime. Once they are fitted, they can last a lifetime. You may need to replace the crowns after about 15 years. Dentures and bridges, on the other hand, have to be repaired or replaced every so often. Simply said, dental implants are affordable from a long-term perspective.

The Impact of Tooth Loss

When you happen to lose teeth, know that time isn't on your side to get them replaced. People who don't replace their teeth in the first year of losing them suffer nearly 25 percent of bone resorption or shrinkage. It happens because there are no roots and nerves to stimulate the growth of the jawbone. Not only that, but there is also a risk of decay, gum recession, and gum disease because biofilm, bacteria, and food debris get trapped in the space of the lost teeth, thus taking their toll on the healthy teeth and gums, and destroying them.

Am I A Candidate for Dental Implants?

Some people are not candidates for dental implants. If your bone does not have the volume to support the implant screw, then you could need a gum graft. Again, any pre-existing ailments like gum disease, heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure have to be managed first. Additionally, you have to be willing to stop smoking, at least for several weeks, or better still, for good. Smoking delays the healing of the surgery site and can risk infection.

Dental Implant Procedure

First, a dentist fits the screw-like implant pieces into the jawbone by performing surgery. A healing period lasting around three to six months is allowed. After that, you will have an impression taken for making the crowns or other restorations like dentures that will be mounted over the implant post. Once these restorations are crafted, you will come back in to have them affixed and cemented over the abutment or connector piece.

Timeline for Dental Implant Procedure

Generally, it will take six to nine months to have the procedure completed, depending on the steps involved. Since the tooth implant placement process involves gum tissue healing, jawbone and implant fusing, or even extraction, the timeline may vary significantly.

Our dentist will check your jawbone to see if it has enough mass or if it needs to be strengthened using bone grafting techniques. If they need to be strengthened then you will stay for a bit longer without implants, as the bone will require healing time.

The Cost of Dental Implants

Implant procedures are different, therefore, the cost varies widely. Depending on the steps involved in the procedure, you could pay less or more. Even so, dental implant costs are worth it, considering the lifelike solutions they provide and their durability.

For a single tooth, patients could pay an amount ranging between $2,800 to $4,800 for one tooth. If you are receiving several individual teeth, you can calculate that by multiplying by the number of teeth.

Patients needing multiple tooth implants will pay more. For a bridge supported by an implant and holding three to four teeth all fused together, the price may be tagged at $6,000 to $10,000. When you look at this price, it is cheaper than receiving individual implants because you have the four teeth supported by only two implant screws, which lowers the price.

Further, for patients receiving a full mouth of implants, the cost soars. For All-on-4 implant-supported dentures, you could be paying from $15,000 to $30,000 for the upper or lower arch of teeth. Typically, if the entire mouth is getting teeth replacement, the cost can range from $50,000 to $90,000.

Factors That Impact the Cost

There is no standard price for dental implants because the procedures are different. Unlike a single procedure such as a crown or filling, dental implant cost is assessed based on the complexity of work, the number of teeth being placed, and the type of restoration. Again, any pretreatment procedures involved can increase the final price, for instance, a sinus lift or bone grafting and extractions.

Benefits of Dental Implants

The inability to chew and speak fluently can severely affect one's health and daily life. Dental implants provide unparalleled stability, enabling you to bite, chew, and speak without restrictions.

Further, dental implants are designed to closely resemble natural teeth, which enables you to regain your seamless, aesthetically pleasing smile. There is also the preservation of the jawline and facial structure. Losing multiple teeth could potentially alter your facial structure. Dental implants prevent bone loss that often occurs after losing a tooth, which, in turn, helps to maintain the integrity of the facial structure.

Are Dental Implants Safe?

In many cases, dental implants are safe. The only time they may bring complications is when they fail to set properly or if there was a problem during surgery. Poor oral hygiene could also risk a condition referred to as peri-implantitis, which invades the gingival tissue surrounding the implants. Even so, dental implants have an extremely high success rate of 95 percent and above, and also a good survival rate - lasting up to 25 years.
